How To Calculate Hourly Rate From Salary

To calculate an hourly rate from a salary, divide your yearly salary by the hours you work in a year. For a full-time job of 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, divide by 2,080.

  1. Enter your pay amount, for example 55000.
  2. Choose how often you receive that amount: yearly, monthly, semi-monthly, biweekly, weekly or daily.
  3. Enter your usual hours per week. Full time is often 40.
  4. Enter the weeks you work each year. Use 52 for an hourly equivalent that includes paid time off.
  5. Read your hourly rate and your pay for every other period, all before taxes.

Salary To Hourly Formula

Hourly rate = yearly salary ÷ (hours per week × weeks per year). At 40 hours and 52 weeks, that is yearly salary ÷ 2,080.

For example, $70,000 ÷ 2,080 = $33.65 an hour before taxes. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics uses the same 2,080-hour work year when it converts between annual and hourly wages.

Annual Salary To Hourly

Divide your annual salary by 2,080 for a 40-hour week, or by your weekly hours × 52 for any other schedule. So 50k a year is how much an hour? At 40 hours a week it is $24.04, and at 45 hours a week it is $21.37.

Monthly Salary To Hourly

Multiply a monthly salary by 12 to get the yearly figure, then divide by 2,080 for a 40-hour week. A $4,000 monthly salary is $48,000 a year, or $23.08 an hour. If you are paid twice a month (semi-monthly), multiply one paycheck by 24 to get the yearly figure first.

Biweekly Salary To Hourly

A biweekly paycheck covers two weeks, so divide it by the hours you work in two weeks: 80 hours for a 40-hour week. A $2,000 biweekly salary is $2,000 ÷ 80 = $25 an hour before taxes.

Weekly Pay To Hourly

Divide your weekly pay by the hours you work in a week. $900 a week for 40 hours is $22.50 an hour, and the same $900 for 45 hours is $20 an hour.

Salary To Hourly With Overtime

If you are a non-exempt salaried employee, federal law treats your salary as pay for the hours it is meant to cover. Your regular rate is the weekly salary divided by those hours, and hours over 40 in a workweek must be paid at no less than one and one-half times that rate.

For example, a $1,000 weekly salary meant to cover 40 hours is a $25 regular rate, so each overtime hour pays at least $37.50. Many salaried employees are exempt from overtime, but a job title alone does not decide that: the duties and pay tests in federal rules do.

Hourly Wage Calculator From Salary

The calculator at the top of this page works as an hourly wage calculator from salary for any pay period. It is a yearly to hourly wage calculator, and it also converts monthly, biweekly and weekly pay.

To use it as a salary to hourly calculator with vacation counted as time not worked, lower the weeks per year by the weeks you take off. That shows your pay per hour actually worked, which is higher than the 52-week figure.

Salary To Hourly Conversion Table
